History
In 1595 the Bristol Society of Merchant Venturers' Navigation School is founded.In 1969 Bristol Polytechnic is founded. In 1992 Bristol Polytechnic gains university status and, becomes the University of the West of England (UWE).Today UWE Bristol is the largest provider of higher education in the south west of England.
Location and Transport
UWE Bristol has three campuses (Frenchay, Glenside and City Campus) in Bristol, plus the Gloucester Campus and Hartpury College further afield.
The university is easy to reach from most areas of the country, situated close to the M4 and M5 motorways. There are also excellent train and coach connection.
Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Parkway train stations are walking distance to Frenchay campus; whilst Bristol Temple Meads station, in the city centre, is in easy reach of the City Campus.
