What's the usual application procedure for postgraduate courses?
The essentials of a complete post graduate application are followings:
- The application form
- References - usually 2 references are required for PG course from your academic or one from academic and one from employer, depending on the requirements of the course.
- Degree Certificates (Transcripts)
- A personal statement: its important statement to assess suitability of you for your desired course.
- English language requirement: depends on course to course and Universities to Universities.
- Standardised test scores: For some courses like MBA required standard GMAT scores. If you are applying for a research based Master degree, then some universities might ask research proposal to assess your application.
What's the usual application procedure for undergraduate courses?
All undergraduate applications are filed through universities and colleges admission services (UCAS). It's a centralized process and student can choose maximum five courses at a time. For more information visit your nearest AOCG office or visit UCAS. UCAS charged nominal fees of £7 for one course or £17 for more than two courses to regulate the standard of applications.
How far in advance should I apply? And When will I know the results of my application?
For PG course, it takes on average six weeks for a decision to be taken on an application. You are therefore strongly recommended to apply well in advance of the start date of your course. It will not only secure your place but also maximise your chance to meet scholarships deadline for your desired course.
We have special arrangements of online and offline application file with universities through our UK office which will reduce the waiting time for applicant. However we advise our student to apply six or seven months before to the course starting date.
What are the minimum English requirements for University course?
- IELTS 6 and 6.5 for Undergraduate and PG course
- Some course like Medicines, Dentistry, Law, Pharmacy etc might require 7 band score.
- Some Universities are now considering relaxation to Indian students for IELTS score, if they studied throughout the English medium and have at least 60% marks in English in higher secondary school, or you did your undergraduate in English Medium*.

Is it not possible for me to consider of studying in UK, if I do not speak English or couldn't satisfy the minimum English requirements?
Speaking English is not at all a barrier for you to pursue a study program in UK. There are many programs in UK Universities to teach you the English language, especially in the initial period of the course. You can overcome your language problems in the new environment at the earliest, if you are determined to learn the language with self-interest.
Do UK universities offer scholarships to Overseas students?

How do I assess the teaching/research facilities at various Universities/departments?
Universities research and teaching facilities of various department assess through Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), Some newspapers also rank universities by subjects' area which are useful in general but we advise not to use them as the sole basis of your choice of your university.
How the course assess in UK?

How much does it cost to do a course?
There are two core cost for a course: Tuition fees and living expenses. Tuition fees can be varying from £ 4000-14000 per year for UG and PG course. Some course fees like MBA can be £5000-25000 per annum. Standard living cost which recently suggested by the British council is set up £7200 for London and £5400 for outside of London. However Indian students manage to down it to £ 400-500 in London and £ 200-400 for outside of London, but advisable to have budget according to British council guidelines
Note: If you want to bring your dependants with you, you will need to show that you have a further £533 (in London) or £400 (outside of London) a month for each dependant that you bring with you for up to a maximum of 12 months.
What is a student visa?
Student Visa is meant for those who want to come to UK for education. Student Visa is issued for the duration of the academic course of study on the basis of firm letters of admission from universities/recognised colleges or educational institutions in UK.
What are the pre-requisites for securing a student visa?
In order to secure a student visa, students need to obtain a letter from your institution confirming that a place has been offered to you and that the course is full-time as defined by the immigration law.
Meantime you must Show the full fund which will cover your total tuition fees and living cost and the living expenses of your dependent (if applicable), without working in UK.
You must
- Get admit in a full time course
- Intend to leave UK at the end of the course
- Not intend to work in UK, unless you are not accepted for course at least of six month.
What are the documents required for the visa process?

- Evidence that you can pay the course fees and support yourself and your family, if applicable

What is New Point based Visa system? Now would it be difficult to get visa?
From March 2009, UK government is switching student visa in tier 4 category and in order to obtain visa you need to qualified for essentials 40 points . You will get:
- 30 points for a CAS letter from a licensed sponsor ( authorised University/colleges); and
- 10 points if you can show (and have documents to prove as needed) you have enough money for your course fees and monthly living expenses (known as maintenance).
Now it would be easier to get visa as compare to before, because your sponsor institutes are government authenticate and registered bodies which signed exclusive contract with government to sponsor student for courses.
Can I change my sponsor?
You always have flexibility to change your sponsor, but you will have to get a new visa letter from a different institution or sponsor and apply again.
Can I do any job whilst I am studying?
You will be able to work:
- part-time work during term-time which is no more than 20 hours a week;
- full-time work during vacations;
- on a work placement as part of the course, which is no more than 50% of the length of the course.
Can my husband/wife/spouse work while I study?
Dependents of Students can work full-time after the student has commenced his or her course in UK.
Can I get a job in UK after finishing my education?
It is possible if you perform well in your program and in your job interviews. Going by the past statistics, some Indian students have managed to find jobs and have stayed back after completion of their education. However, there is no guarantee.
